Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 98:
Sold for: $140
Description
A pair of Mexican silver and gold-plated handgun grips specifically designed for a Smith & Wesson K-frame square butt revolver. These mid-20th-century grips are executed in the “Charro” style, featuring profuse hand-engraved foliate scrollwork across the exterior surfaces. Each panel is inset with two circular medallions depicting the Aztec sun stone (Piedra del Sol) motif. The grips are constructed from a yellow-tone metal base with silver-toned plating highlighted within the engraved recesses. The reverse sides feature integrated mounting brackets soldered to the interior panels. The lot is accompanied by a handwritten identification tag attributing the manufacture to Mexico, circa 1950.
Condition report:
The grips are in good vintage condition. There is visible wear and thinning to the gold-toned plating on the high points of the engraving and the medallions, revealing the base metal. The reverse mounting brackets exhibit significant tarnish, oxidation, and signs of previous fitting and solder repair. Minor surface scratches and nicks are present throughout.
