Description
The Remington Sportsman-58 is a gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun chambered for 12-gauge 2 3/4-inch shells, recognized as a primary predecessor to the Model 1100. This example features a 28 inch barrel with a fixed full choke, suitable for various field hunting applications. The barrel and receiver both showcase a blued finish, complemented by factory-rolled engravings; the right side of the receiver depicts ducks in flight, while the left side shows two hunting dogs in a field scene. The furniture consists of a checkered walnut stock and forend with a high-gloss finish and a pistol grip. Key markings transcribed from the firearm include the model name Remington Sportsman-58 and the serial number 42849V on the left side of the receiver. The barrel is marked REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC., ILION, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. along with patent numbers 2,645,873 and 2,675,638. Additional barrel markings specify 12 GA. FOR 2 3/4 OR SHORTER SHELLS and FULL. The shotgun is equipped with a single metal bead front sight and retains its original black plastic Remington buttplate. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The shotgun is in overall good condition. The blued finish shows some thinning and light surface scratches on the barrel, along with small spots of surface oxidation on the bolt and receiver edges. The bore is bright and appears in good condition. The walnut stock and forend show minor dings and handling marks consistent with regular field use, with light wear to the high-gloss finish. The action appears to cycle smoothly, though the firearm has not been function-tested or test-fired.
