Description
This Winchester Model 1897 is a pump action shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, featuring a 30 inch barrel with a fixed full choke. The firearm exhibits the classic external hammer design characteristic of the model. The metal components are finished in a heavy, dark brown patina with visible surface oxidation, pitting, and handling marks throughout the receiver and barrel. The furniture consists of a wood buttstock and a sliding forearm; the buttstock is heavily worn and features a significant horizontal crack on the right side, while the forearm is partially covered with a dark, textured tape or wrap of unknown origin. Prominent markings include the model designation WINCHESTER MODEL 1897 on the action bar and the matching serial number 241342 stamped on both the underside of the receiver and the barrel extension, with the letter C stamped above the receiver number. Barrel markings specify the manufacturer as MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. followed by a series of patent dates ending in OCT. 16. 1900. The barrel is also marked 12 and FULL. The shotgun is equipped with a checkered steel buttplate. This firearm is being sold for parts only. Condition report:
The shotgun is in poor overall condition, consistent with a parts-only designation. The metal surfaces show a complete loss of original bluing, having aged to a dark brown patina with widespread surface oxidation, pitting, and numerous scratches. The wood buttstock is structurally compromised by a large horizontal crack on the right side and shows significant dings and wear. The sliding forearm is obscured by tape, which may hide further damage. The bore is dark and exhibits pitting. The action appears to function mechanically when cycled, but the firearm has not been function-tested for safety or live-fire performance.
