Description
This Remington Model 17 is a pump-action shotgun chambered for 20 gauge and features a 28 inch barrel. Utilizing the bottom-ejecting design patented by John Browning, this firearm is configured for field use with a single metal bead front sight and a modified choke. The shotgun features a high-polish blued finish on the receiver and barrel, a ribbed walnut forestock, and a smooth walnut buttstock. The stock has been modified with the installation of an aftermarket brown Pachmayr White Line ventilated rubber recoil pad. Key markings on the left side of the receiver include the manufacturer information and model designation transcribed as Remington TRADE MARK, MODEL 17, and the serial number 43174. The barrel features a matching serial number 43174, the choke designation MOD., an R.E.P. proof mark within an oval, and an anchor symbol. The barrel address is engraved as REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY, INC., REMINGTON ILION WORKS, ILION, N. Y., U. S. A. BROWNING’S PATENT JUNE 15, 1915. Condition report:
The blued finish is well-preserved, showing light scratching and handling marks with moderate wear on the magazine tube from the cycling of the action. The walnut furniture exhibits scattered dings and light scratches consistent with field use, and the buttstock has been cut to accommodate the Pachmayr recoil pad. The bore is bright and appears to be in good condition. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
