Description
This is a Remington Model 11 semi-automatic shotgun chambered in 12 gauge and fitted with a 28 inch barrel featuring a ventilated rib. Based on the John Browning design, this model was the first successful semi-automatic shotgun produced in the United States and remains a classic for field use. The barrel is equipped with a replacement red bead front sight and is marked with a full choke designation at the breech. The steel components exhibit a blued finish that shows significant thinning and a transition to a mottled brown patina, accompanied by various light surface scratches. The furniture consists of a checkered walnut stock and forend; the buttstock has a prominent crack and a small missing chip on the upper left side where it meets the receiver. An aftermarket Morgan Adjustable aluminum and rubber recoil pad has been installed on the butt. Prominent markings include the literal transcription on the barrel: MODEL 11 THE REMINGTON ARMS UNION METALLIC CTG. CO., INC. REMINGTON ILION WKS- ILION, N. Y. U.S.A. BROWNINGS PATENTS OCTOBER 9, 1900; DEC. 17, 1901; SEPT. 30, 1902; AND JUNE 16, 1903. The top of the receiver tang is stamped with Remington TRADE MARK in script. The serial number 265503 is located on the underside of the receiver forward of the loading port, and the barrel breech also features the mark FULL alongside an REP proof mark within an oval. Condition report:
The original blued finish is heavily worn and thinned on both the receiver and barrel, showing a transition to a smooth brown and grey patina with scattered surface scratches and handling marks. The bore shows signs of regular use but remains in functional condition. The action appears to cycle correctly, although it has not been test-fired for safety or function. The checkered walnut furniture is well-used, displaying many dings and scuffs, with the notable crack and chip on the left side of the buttstock being the most significant structural defect. The aftermarket adjustable recoil pad shows some age but remains intact.
