Description
The Mossberg Model 185D is a bolt action shotgun chambered for 20 gauge 2 3/4 inch shells, designed for versatile field use. This firearm features a 26 inch barrel fitted with an external screw on choke system at the muzzle and comes equipped with a total of three interchangeable choke tubes. The metal components, including the barrel and receiver, are finished in a traditional bluing. It is mounted in a one piece hardwood stock featuring a smooth pistol grip and a black synthetic buttplate. The shotgun utilizes a detachable box magazine for feeding and is equipped with a simple brass bead front sight. Key markings on the barrel are transcribed as O.F. MOSSBERG & SONS, INC. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. and 185 D 20 GA-2 3/4 IN. PROOF TESTED. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal components exhibit a fair to good appearance with significant thinning and wear to the original bluing, accompanied by patches of surface oxidation and light peppering, primarily along the barrel and bolt handle. The hardwood stock shows various scratches, dings, and finish wear consistent with a field used firearm but appears free of major cracks. The bore condition is not fully determined but the action appears to function correctly when cycled. The synthetic buttplate shows typical scuffing and the detachable magazine exhibits some finish loss from use.
