Description
This is a sporterized Springfield Armory Model 1903 bolt action rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The rifle is built on a military receiver with a replacement barrel measuring approximately 24 inches in length. The original military iron sights have been removed to accommodate sporting use. Key markings on the receiver include U.S. over SPRINGFIELD ARMORY and MODEL 1903 over ARMORY on the left side, though these are partially obscured by the scope mounting hardware. The serial number 850016 is clearly stamped on the right side of the receiver ring. The barrel is marked with a circled S, 4-44, and M C, indicating a production date of April 1944. The firearm is mounted in a custom walnut sporter stock featuring a Monte Carlo comb, an integral cheekpiece, a black forend tip, and a matching grip cap with white spacers. It is fitted with a Pachmayr White Line brown rubber recoil pad. The rifle is equipped with a Weaver scope featuring a fine crosshair reticle with a center dot, held in detachable mounts. A brown leather adjustable sling is attached to the swivel studs. Missing parts include the original military front and rear iron sights. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal finish shows significant wear across all surfaces. The barrel exhibits widespread surface oxidation and areas of light pitting, particularly near the muzzle where the original sight was located. The receiver shows thinning finish and a transition to a brown patina. The bolt action appears to function smoothly, though it has not been live-fire tested. The wood stock remains in good structural condition but displays numerous dings, scratches, and surface compressions consistent with age and field use. The Pachmayr recoil pad is intact but shows some hardening. The Weaver scope has visible finish loss and scratches on the exterior bells, but the optics remain clear and the reticle is well-defined.
