Description
This is a Remington Model 514 single-shot bolt-action rifle chambered for .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle cartridges, designed as a straightforward and reliable rimfire sporting firearm. It features a 24-inch barrel with a blued finish that exhibits significant thinning and a transition to a natural brownish patina, with light surface oxidation present on the barrel, receiver, and bolt handle. The rifle is fitted with a one-piece walnut stock showing a smooth finish and a black plastic buttplate bearing the Remington logo. Technical specifications include a factory adjustable leaf rear sight and a fixed post front sight. Key markings include the model designation Remington MODEL 514 and caliber specification .22 SHORT, LONG OR LONG RIFLE on the left side of the barrel, accompanied by the proof marks BWW and a symbol. The right side of the barrel bears the inscription REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC. ILION, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. — PATENTS PENDING, while a single digit 4 is stamped on the right side of the barrel at the receiver junction. The safety mechanism at the rear of the bolt shows remains of original red indicator paint. As a single-shot design, this firearm does not utilize a magazine. Condition report:
The original blued finish has thinned considerably, showing a widespread brownish patina and scattered light surface oxidation on the barrel and receiver. The bolt handle and receiver top show similar finish wear and age-related oxidation. The action appears to cycle smoothly, though the bore was not inspected for this report. The walnut stock remains in good structural condition but exhibits numerous dings, scratches, and minor compressions consistent with age and field use. The plastic buttplate is intact with light scuffing.
