Description
A lot consisting of two edged tools: a Browning hunting hatchet and a vintage C+R Loo curved utility knife. The Browning hatchet is identified as Model 478 and features full-tang steel construction. It is equipped with black textured composite handle scales secured by three Torx-head screws. The front of the axe head bears an oval logo for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF). The handle neck is stamped BROWNING on the front and MODEL 478 and CHINA on the reverse. The hatchet includes a matching black woven nylon sheath with a belt loop and snap closures. The second tool is a vintage utility or skinning knife featuring a curved blade. The blade is stamped C+R Loo over Made in Western-Germany. The handle is composed of two wooden scales held by three metal rivets, terminating in a cast-metal end bolster. The Western-Germany stamp indicates manufacture prior to the German reunification in 1990.
Condition report:
The Browning hatchet is in good pre-owned condition. The steel blade exhibits minor surface scuffs and light pinpoint oxidation spots. The edge is intact with evidence of light use. The composite scales are secure and the nylon sheath is functional with minor signs of wear. The C+R Loo knife is in fair to good vintage condition. The blade shows prominent sharpening scratches, minor pitting, and light surface oxidation. The wooden handle scales show age-related darkening and wear. The metal end bolster displays typical oxidation and minor dings. The handle assembly remains structurally tight.
