Description
This Remington Model 11 variant, marketed as The Sportsman, is a 12-gauge recoil-operated semi-automatic shotgun designed for field use. It is equipped with a 27-inch barrel featuring a single brass bead front sight and a standard tubular magazine. The receiver is decorated with rolled game scene engravings, depicting a duck in flight on the left side and a pheasant on the right side. The metal surfaces are primarily finished in bluing, which has largely given way to a heavy patina and widespread oxidation. The furniture consists of a checkered walnut pistol grip stock and a matching checkered forend. Verbatim markings on the left side of the receiver include Remington in script over REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. with the serial number 75353 stamped below. The bolt is marked THE SPORTSMAN and the barrel is stamped PROOF TESTED 12 GAUGE near the breech. The firearm is fitted with a severely deteriorated and crumbling red rubber recoil pad. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces show significant wear, characterized by widespread surface oxidation, pitting, and light rust across the receiver and the entire length of the barrel. The original bluing is approximately 10 percent remaining in protected areas. The walnut stock and forend exhibit numerous dings, compressions, and scratches consistent with heavy field use, including a prominent longitudinal crack on the right side of the forend. The bore is dark and shows signs of frosting throughout. The action appears to function mechanically when cycled by hand, though the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The red rubber recoil pad is in a state of advanced decomposition and is brittle and crumbling.
