Description
This Remington Model 12 is a pump-action rifle chambered for .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle cartridges, featuring a 24-inch round barrel with an under-barrel tubular magazine. The metal surfaces exhibit a blued finish that has largely transitioned to a dark brown patina, showing widespread surface oxidation and light pitting on the receiver and barrel. The rifle is stocked in walnut with a straight grip and a Remington UMC marked composite buttplate, complemented by a ribbed wooden forend; both wood components show significant field use, including finish loss, scratches, and various small dings. The firearm is fitted with a vintage Weaver B4 scope on a tip-off mount, which is marked Weaver El Paso Tex. USA and Pat. No 2803907, while retaining its original iron sights consisting of a fixed front bead and an adjustable rear leaf. Key markings include the model designation MODEL 12 and the serial number 712176 stamped on the left side of the receiver, alongside a manually etched identification number 700-01-5625. Barrel markings specify REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC. REMINGTON ILION WORKS, ILION, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. followed by PEDERSEN’S PATENTS OCT. 12.09. MAR. 8.10. NOV. 21.11. APR. 6.12. Condition report:
The rifle is in fair overall condition, showing heavy signs of field use and age. The original bluing has mostly faded to a dark brown patina with visible oxidation and areas of light pitting across the metal surfaces. The walnut stock and forend are structurally sound but show significant wear, finish loss, and numerous surface scratches. The bore was not inspected but the exterior condition suggests the need for a thorough cleaning. The slide action functions smoothly when cycled manually, though the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The Weaver scope remains mounted securely and the optics are relatively clear with an intact crosshair reticle.
