Description
This Winchester Model 37 Steelbilt is a single-shot break-action shotgun chambered in 16 gauge and features a 28 inch barrel with a fixed choke. The firearm is constructed with a blued steel finish on the barrel and receiver, showing typical wear and thinning from field use. It is fitted with a smooth walnut buttstock and forend that exhibit scattered dings and scratches consistent with its age. The shotgun operates via a top-lever break-open action and utilizes a manual external hammer. An aftermarket black ventilated Pachmayr White Line recoil pad has been added to the butt. Prominent markings on the left side of the barrel include MADE IN U.S.A. WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. — PATENTS PENDING. — MODEL 37-STEELBILT-16 GA. — WINCHESTER TRADE MARK — CHOKE. The breech area is further marked 2 3/4 CHAM. Consistent with this model’s production history, no serial number is present on the frame or barrel. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued finish remains largely present but shows thinning on high edges, light surface oxidation on the receiver and trigger guard, and several areas of minor scuffing on the barrel. The walnut furniture is sound with original finish, displaying numerous small dings, light scratches, and some finish loss from field use. The bore is bright. The break-action lockup is tight, and the top lever, hammer, and trigger appear to function normally. The aftermarket Pachmayr recoil pad is well-fitted but shows minor surface wear and some hardening of the rubber.
