Description
This is a single Lefever Nitro Special 12-gauge side-by-side break-action shotgun featuring 30-inch barrels with a brass bead front sight. The action is built on a boxlock frame with double triggers, a top-break lever, and a tang-mounted manual safety. Verbatim markings include LEFEVER NITRO SPECIAL on the top of the left barrel and LEFEVER ARMS CO. ITHACA, N.Y. on the top of the right barrel. The receiver’s water table and the barrel flats are both stamped with the matching serial number 208173, while the barrel flats also include a 12 gauge designation. The firearm is fitted with a checkered walnut pistol-grip stock and a matching splinter-style forend, completed with a black hard rubber buttplate. The original metal finish has largely transitioned to a mottled gray and brown patina with scattered surface oxidation and honest wear throughout. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The shotgun exhibits a heavy mottled patina across the barrels and receiver, indicating a significant thinning of the original blued and case-hardened finishes. There are areas of light surface oxidation and various small scratches on the metalwork. The walnut furniture shows signs of field use, including various dings, scratches, and compression marks, particularly around the wrist and forend. The checkering remains legible but shows smoothing from handling. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not live-fire tested this firearm. The bore condition was not evaluated.
