Description
This single-shot bolt-action rifle is a Springfield Model 82 manufactured by the J. Stevens Arms Company of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Chambered to accept .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle cartridges, it is equipped with an approximately 24-inch barrel. The metal components exhibit a worn blued finish with significant surface oxidation and a dark patina throughout the barrel, receiver, and bolt assembly. The firearm features a one-piece wood stock with a reddish-brown stain, showcasing several dings, scratches, and darkened areas of wear concentrated near the butt. Sighting is handled by a basic leaf rear sight and a blade front sight mounted at the muzzle. Key markings on the barrel include SPRINGFIELD J STEVENS ARMS COMPANY CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A. MODEL 82 and 22 SHORT LONG OR LONG RIFLE. A small circular proof mark containing the number 18 is visible on the left side of the barrel near the receiver. No serial number was located during inspection. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces show a heavily worn blued finish with widespread surface oxidation and a dark brown patina. The wood stock is in fair condition with numerous dings, scratches, and areas of finish loss consistent with age and field use. The metal buttplate exhibits heavy oxidation. The action appears to function correctly with the bolt moving freely and the trigger engaging, although the firearm has not been function-tested. The bore was not inspected.
