Description
This lot consists of two vintage Penn salt water fishing reels, featuring conventional level wind mechanisms. The collection includes one Penn Peer No. 209 and one Penn Peerless No. 9. Both reels are constructed with maroon side plates and chrome-plated metal frames, fitted with ivory-toned plastic handles. The Penn Peer No. 209 is marked on the side plate with PENN PEER NO. 209 and MADE IN U.S.A., and features a central oiling cap inscribed OIL 40-60. The second reel is marked in script with Penn Peerless No. 9 and MADE IN U.S.A. Both models include spare pawl storage screws on the side plates and are currently spooled with monofilament line. The reels feature star drag controls and chrome-plated metal pillars and stands.
Condition report:
Both reels exhibit signs of age and significant use. The chrome-plated components show surface wear, pitting, and oxidation throughout. The Penn Peerless No. 9 model displays notable corrosion and green verdigris on the frame and spool. The maroon side plates show minor surface scratches and dirt accumulation. The plastic handles remain intact but show discoloration consistent with age. Mechanical functionality has not been tested.
