Description
This Remington Model 742 Woodmaster is a semi-automatic centerfire rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield, a classic configuration for North American big game hunting. The rifle features a 22-inch blued steel barrel and a blued receiver equipped with a top-mounted weaver-style scope base. The furniture consists of a walnut stock and forend featuring pressed fleur-de-lis checkering and a capped pistol grip. A brown Pachmayr White Line rubber recoil pad has been added to the buttstock, and the rifle is fitted with front and rear sling swivel studs. Prominent markings include Remington over serial number 166288 and Woodmaster MODEL 742 on the left side of the receiver. The barrel is roll-marked REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC., ILION, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. PATENT No. 2,685,754 AND OTHERS .30-06 SPRG. Additional barrel marks include a circled REP proof, M, and V on the right side, with U L M A G stamped on the left near the receiver. Both the front and rear factory iron sights have been removed, leaving the mounting screw holes open on the barrel. The rifle includes a single detachable box magazine. Condition report:
The blued finish on the receiver and barrel shows moderate wear, with thinning along the high edges, scattered light scratches, and some areas of surface oxidation. The walnut stock and forend exhibit heavy signs of field use, including numerous pressure dents, deep scratches, and significant portions of peeling or worn finish throughout both components. The bore is bright with strong, well-defined rifling. The semi-automatic action appears to function correctly, though it has not been test-fired. The aftermarket Pachmayr recoil pad shows age-related hardening and surface wear.
