Description
This bolt action rifle is a sporterized conversion of a U.S. Model 1917 Enfield originally manufactured for military service, now chambered in .30-06 Springfield for civilian use. The firearm features a blued barrel and receiver with the original military sight ears removed and the receiver bridge ground smooth to accommodate a scope mounting system. It is housed in a custom walnut sporter stock featuring a Monte Carlo comb, a raised cheekpiece, and point-pattern checkering on the pistol grip and forend. The rifle is equipped with a Nikon ProStaff scope featuring a BDC reticle, mounted on a base marked BUEHLER ORINDA, CAL. The stock is finished with a Pachmayr White Line rubber recoil pad and includes sling swivel studs. Prominent markings include U S, EDDYSTONE, and MODEL OF 1917 on the receiver ring, with the serial number 463179 stamped on the right side of the receiver rail. The barrel is marked 30-06 on the left side near the breech. This firearm lacks its original iron sights and military furniture as part of the sporterization process. Condition report:
The metal finish shows substantial wear and thinning throughout, with the bluing turned to a brown patina in several areas. There is visible surface oxidation and light pitting present, most notably along the exterior of the barrel. The bore was not visually inspected but is assumed to show wear consistent with the exterior condition. The bolt action appears to function correctly and cycles smoothly, although the rifle has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The wood stock is structurally sound but displays numerous scratches, dings, and impressions consistent with field use. The Nikon optic features clear glass and the reticle remains intact.
