Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 1477:
Sold for: $80
Description
A well-used steel socket bayonet, consistent with military issue from the late 19th or early 20th century. It features a cruciform profile blade tapering to a blunt point, an angled elbow, and a cylindrical socket equipped with a sight/lug slot, a locking ring, and a spring-loaded retention mechanism. Visible markings include “H 698” stamped on the socket, a circled proof mark on the elbow, and the number “26” appearing both on the elbow and below the circled mark. Japanese Katakana characters “セ” (Se) and “チ” (Chi), which translate to “Sechi,” are also stamped on the elbow.
Condition report:
Good, commensurate with age and military use. The steel displays a grey patination with scattered surface wear, minor pitting, and areas of light surface rust across its length. Remnants of red paint are visible on the spring-loaded retention mechanism.
