Description

A Hall/North Model 1833 Original Percussion Carbine, dated 1839. note: Rare; the first breech loading percussion carbine to be adopted by any military in the world, and was the first military percussion long arm to be adopted anywhere; first percussion arm manufactured at a national arsenal. Also introduced the “ramrod bayonet.” Initially adopted for issue to the newly formed 1st and 2nd Dragoons in FL for fighting in the Seminole Wars (this receiver date puts this carbine in the middle of the Second Seminole War time frame) This antique U.S. military-style long gun features a dark stained wooden stock and oxidized iron or steel metal components, including the barrel, lock plate, trigger guard, and exposed hammer. The lock plate is visibly marked “U.S.”, “S. NORTH”, “MIDL. CONN.” (Middletown, Connecticut), and the date “1839”. A ramrod is present beneath the barrel, and a sling swivel ring is attached to the buttstock.

Condition report:

The firearm appears in aged, used condition. The metalwork exhibits a dark, mottled patina with evidence of surface wear and light pitting. The wooden stock shows numerous scratches, dings, and areas of finish loss consistent with its age and historical use.
