Description

This is a Carl Gustafs Model 1896 Swedish Mauser bolt-action military rifle, produced by Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori in 1912, as marked on the receiver. The rifle bears the serial number 309977 on the receiver, with matching partial serial number 977 and a crown marking on the bolt and safety mechanisms. It is constructed with a wooden stock and features primarily blued steel components accented by bright steel parts. An adjustable target-style rear sight is present, inscribed with the Swedish terms "Träffb." (Point of Impact) and "ÄT H <> V" (likely indicating Elevation, Horizontal/Vertical adjustments). An importer’s mark on the barrel identifies it as "C.A.I. ST.ALB. VT. M-96 SWEDEN 6.5X55", confirming its model and 6.5x55mm caliber. A brass disc is inset into the buttstock, displaying numerical calibrations and the Swedish terms "överslag" (overshoot) and "sim" (shims), likely related to ballistic or stock adjustments.

Condition report:

The rifle presents in good, aged condition, exhibiting typical wear, scratches, and finish loss on the wood and blued steel surfaces consistent with its age and use. Some surface corrosion is visible on the metal buttplate.
