Description
A late 19th-century French Model 1874 Gras bayonet, manufactured by the Manufacture d’Armes de Saint-Étienne. The bayonet features a steel blade and crossguard, dark wooden grip scales, and brass pommel and fore-end components. The blade bears a faint inscription, “Mre d’Armes de St. Etienne – 187-“, indicating its manufacturer and a production date within the 1870s. A serial number, “B 73608,” is clearly visible on the lower crossguard, accompanied by several faint circular inspection stamps on both the crossguard and blade.
Condition report:
Fair to poor condition. The steel components exhibit extensive pitting, surface rust, and discoloration consistent with significant age and wear. The wooden grip scales show visible wear and minor chipping. The brass elements have a dull, aged patina.
