Description
A First World War French Croix de Guerre 1914-1917 bronze medal, shaped as a cross with splayed arms and crossed swords. One side of the central medallion displays the stacked dates “1914” and “1917.” The reverse features a profile bust of a classical female figure, likely Marianne, encircled by the inscription “REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE” (French Republic). The medal is suspended from a vertically striped fabric ribbon, characterized by alternating vertical green and red stripes, with a small bronze star affixed.
Condition report:
The bronze components exhibit an aged patina with minor surface wear. The fabric ribbon is notably faded, frayed, and shows some tears, particularly at its attachment points.
