Lot 453:
Austrian Steyr M. 1874 Bolt-Action Rifle, Dated 1885
Sold for: $425
Description
An Austrian Steyr M. 1874 bolt-action rifle, featuring a long barrel and a full-length wooden stock, complemented by steel and iron components. The receiver is clearly marked “OESTERR. WAFFENFABR. GES.”, “Steyr” (in cursive), and “M. 1874”. A serial number “A62939” is visible, along with the date “1885” below the rear sight. The metal buttplate displays a faint, possibly stamped, “1870”. The right side of the buttstock features crudely stamped numbers, possibly “9239”. The rifle is likely chambered in 11mm, consistent with models of this period.
Condition report:
The blued finish on the steel and iron components exhibits heavy patination, significant wear, surface scratches, and some minor pitting consistent with age. The wooden stock shows numerous dings, scratches, and a well-worn surface. Overall condition is consistent with a vintage service rifle.
