Description
This US World War II era fighting knife is the model 225Q produced by the Cattaraugus Cutlery Company. The ricasso of the blade is stamped with the manufacturer name Cattaraugus in a cursive script above the model designation 225Q. The knife is constructed with a heavy carbon steel clip-point blade featuring a deep fuller. The hilt consists of a stacked leather washer grip, an oval steel crossguard, and a thick circular steel pommel designed for hammering. The knife is accompanied by a period-correct brown leather sheath featuring a belt loop and a retaining strap secured by a metal snap fastener.
Condition report:
The knife is in good field-used condition. The blade exhibits a dark gray patina with extensive surface pitting and oxidation consistent with age and field service. The primary edge shows evidence of historical sharpening. The stacked leather handle is secure but shows compression and darkening from use. The steel crossguard and pommel show surface wear and oxidation. The leather sheath is intact with all stitching present but displays significant wear, including scuffing and surface cracking at the flex points.
