Description

This is a sporterized bolt-action rifle built on a U.S. Model 1917 military action, chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The rifle features a blued finish on the barrel and receiver and is housed in a custom wood sporter stock characterized by a raised cheek rest, a dark contrasting forend tip, and light-colored diamond-shaped wood inlays. The original military iron sights have been removed to accommodate a Weaver K4 60-B fixed-power scope with a post and crosshair reticle, which is secured by a Redfield mount. A well-worn leather target-style sling with brass hardware is attached to the integrated swivels. Key markings include a literal transcription of R, a flaming bomb ordnance symbol, and 8 – 18 stamped on the barrel near the muzzle, identifying the manufacturer as Remington with a production date of August 1918. The receiver and bolt handle display several small proof marks and additional flaming bomb symbols. The scope is marked EL PASO, TEX. U.S.A. and the mount is stamped REDFIELD PAT. NO. 1,837,290. The butt is fitted with a reddish-orange rubber recoil pad marked Western Field TRADE MARK. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The overall condition shows moderate wear consistent with field use. The blued finish on the barrel and receiver exhibits thinning, particularly at the muzzle and high edges, along with minor scratches and surface handling marks. The wooden stock is in good condition with scattered minor dings and handling marks but remains structurally sound. The leather sling shows significant age-related cracking and surface wear throughout its length. The optics appear clear with a distinct reticle, though the exterior of the scope tube shows some finish wear. The bore was not inspected. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
