Gun Collectors Dream Auction #83 May 2nd & 3rd TWO DAYS - NO RESERVES - 1200 LOTS!
Lot 433:
Sold for: $85
Description
This lot consists of a pair of vintage metal canisters containing IMR 4350 smokeless powder, providing 2 LBS total of propellant intended for ammunition reloading. The first canister is branded for the IMR Powder Company of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and is marked as being formerly supplied by DuPont. The second canister features the DuPont oval logo and is attributed to E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Co. Inc. of Wilmington, Delaware. Both rectangular canisters are finished in maroon with white graphic labels and red metal screw-top caps. Verbatim markings on the canisters include IMR 4350 SMOKELESS POWDER, DANGER! EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE, and NET WT. 16 OZ. (1 LB). The reverse of the canisters indicates they were manufactured in Canada, with the DuPont can specifically noting the Explosives Products Division and the IMR can noting the Plattsburgh address.
Condition report:
The canisters show signs of age and shelf wear consistent with vintage storage. The maroon finish displays minor scuffing and light surface oxidation on the exposed metal rims and seams. The white printed areas exhibit slight yellowing and minor staining. The red metal caps are present and show minor finish loss. The canisters appear to be full based on the labeled weight, though the chemical stability of the powder has not been tested and the items are sold as vintage collectibles.
