Description
This Lyman Ohaus Model D-5 precision loading scale is a balance beam instrument designed for the measurement of gunpowder and small ammunition components. The unit features a cast metal base with a gray painted finish and a black-finished metal balance beam. The beam is equipped with a white-faced scale featuring green and black numeric graduations from 0 to 500 on the primary scale and 0 to 5 on the secondary scale. An orange oval decal on the side of the base is marked with the Lyman and OHAUS logos along with the D-5 model designation. The assembly includes the main base, the graduated beam with poise weights, a pan hanger, and a brass-toned metal weighing pan. The item is accompanied by its original cardboard storage box, which is printed with the manufacturer’s branding and model information.
Condition report:
The scale is in good used condition. The gray paint on the cast metal base shows minor surface wear and small chips. The brand decal on the base is present but shows peeling and damage along the bottom edge. The balance beam and its markings remain clear and legible, and the beam moves freely on its pivot. The brass-toned pan shows light surface oxidation. The original cardboard box shows significant wear, including staining, scuffing, and tears along the edges and corners. The accuracy and calibration of the scale have not been tested.
