Description

This Hopkins & Allen Mfg. Co. X.L. No. 3 is a double-action revolver chambered in .32 caliber centerfire. The firearm is configured with an octagonal barrel and a five-shot fluted cylinder. The metal surfaces were originally nickel-plated over a steel frame. Both grip panels are missing from this example, leaving the skeletonized metal grip frame and the internal mainspring completely exposed. The revolver features a fixed semicircular front sight blade. Verbatim markings on the top strap of the frame read HOPKINS & ALLEN MFG CO / PAT. MAR. 28. 71 JAN. 5. 86 followed by X.L. 3 DOUBLE ACTION / 32 CAL CENTRE FIRE. Included with the lot are three small metal fragments, one of which is a piece of sheet metal stamped CHINA. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.

Condition report:

The overall condition is poor to fair. The nickel-plated finish exhibits significant flaking, wear, and surface oxidation throughout the frame, barrel, and cylinder. Heavy pitting is present on multiple surfaces. The bore was not inspected but the exterior suggests significant use and age. Both grip panels are absent. The action appears to function mechanically, however, we have not function-tested this firearm.
