Description
This Winchester Model 1892 lever action rifle is chambered in .25-20 W.C.F. and is configured with a full length octagonal barrel and a matching full length tubular magazine. The rifle features a standard receiver design with a side loading gate and a top ejecting action. The furniture consists of a two piece walnut stock and forend, with a crescent shaped metal buttplate. Sighting is provided by a rear buckhorn style adjustable sight and a fixed front blade sight. Key markings include the model designation on the upper tang, which reads verbatim MODEL 1892 / -WINCHESTER- / PAT. OCT. 14. 1884. The barrel is stamped with the manufacturer address MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. and the caliber designation 25-20 W.C.F. The serial number 113032 is clearly struck on the underside of the receiver. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces exhibit a heavy, dark grey and brown patina throughout, with the original blued finish largely worn away. Visible surface oxidation and light pitting are present across the receiver, barrel, and magazine tube. The wood stock and forend show significant wear consistent with age and field use, including numerous dings, scratches, and substantial loss of the original varnish. The bore was not inspected. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function tested this firearm.
