Lot 1230:
Sold for: $55
Description
This Iver Johnson Champion is a single-shot break-action shotgun chambered for standard shotgun shells and equipped with a 30-inch barrel. The firearm features a traditional top-lever break-action design with an exposed external hammer and a single trigger mechanism. The metal surfaces exhibit a heavily aged appearance characterized by a dark patina, extensive surface oxidation, and widespread pitting across both the barrel and the receiver. The furniture consists of a walnut forend and buttstock, the latter of which features a prominent crack at the wrist and numerous scratches and dings from age and use. The stock is fitted with a hard rubber buttplate bearing the characteristic Iver Johnson owl logo. Key markings include IVER JOHNSON’S ARMS & CYCLE WORKS FITCHBURG MASS. U.S.A. on the left side of the receiver and the model designation CHAMPION on the top of the barrel near the breech. The serial number 31191 is clearly stamped on the lower tang. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The shotgun is in well-worn condition. The original finish has been replaced by heavy surface oxidation, deep patina, and pitting throughout the metal components. The walnut stock shows significant wear, most notably a large structural crack at the wrist and various dings and abrasions. The forend exhibits similar age-related wear but remains intact. The bore condition is not fully visible but is likely dark and pitted consistent with the exterior. The action opens and closes, and the hammer and trigger appear to function mechanically, though the firearm has not been function-tested for safety or live fire.
