Gun Collectors Dream Auction #84 June 13th & 14th
Lot 1479:
Sold for: $200
Description
This Iver Johnson Supershot Sealed Eight is a top-break, double-action revolver chambered in .22 caliber, featuring an eight-shot cylinder designed with recessed chambers to fully enclose the cartridge rims. The firearm is equipped with a 6 inch barrel fitted with a fixed front blade sight and an adjustable rear notch sight. The metal surfaces originally featured a blued finish, which now exhibits significant transition to a dark patina and surface oxidation. The furniture consists of oversized checkered wood target grips which show heavy wear and discoloration. Prominent markings include IVER JOHNSON’S ARMS and CYCLE WORKS over FITCHBURG, MASS. U.S.A. on the top of the barrel, while the left side is marked 22 SUPERSHOT SEALED EIGHT. The frame bears the distinctive IJ logo, and the serial number L 21876 is clearly stamped on the bottom of the trigger guard. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in poor to fair overall condition. The metal components show extensive surface rust, pitting, and significant finish loss across the barrel, frame, and cylinder. The bore was not inspected but the exterior condition suggests internal oxidation may be present. The wood grips are heavily worn with numerous scratches, dings, and deep discoloration, and the checkering has become smoothed in several areas. The action appears to function mechanically, though the timing and lock-up have not been officially tested for safety.
