Description

This is a Savage Model 6A semi-automatic rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle. Often referred to as a gill-gun due to the distinctive cooling vents on the left side of the receiver, this rifle is configured with a 24 inch barrel and an under-barrel tubular magazine. The action design allows the bolt to be locked for single-shot bolt-action operation or cycled in semi-automatic mode. The rifle is equipped with a checkered wood stock featuring a pistol grip and a factory grooved metal buttplate. It retains factory iron sights, including a step-adjustable rear notch and a blade front sight, and is further equipped with a vintage W.R. Weaver Co. Model 344 scope on a side-mount bracket. Prominent markings on the barrel top include SAVAGE SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION UTICA, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. MODEL 6A while the side is marked CAL. .22 LONG RIFLE SMOKELESS GREASED ONLY. Near the rear sight, the barrel is stamped PATENT 2094577 OTHERS PENDING and a circled 12 proof mark is visible at the receiver junction. The optic is marked MODEL 344 SCOPE PATENTS PENDING W.R. WEAVER CO. EL PASO, TEXAS. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The factory blued finish shows significant thinning and wear throughout, with scattered areas of surface oxidation and light pitting on the barrel and receiver. The bore is somewhat dark with visible rifling and light frosting. The checkered wood stock is structurally sound but exhibits various field dings, scratches, and finish wear consistent with its age. The action appears to function correctly when cycled manually, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The optics in the vintage Weaver scope are somewhat cloudy but remain serviceable.
