Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 138:
Sold for: $350
Description
This is an 8mm Mauser bolt-action rifle featuring a Polish Radom wz. 29 receiver and barrel assembly mounted in a Czechoslovakian VZ-24 wood stock. The rifle is chambered for the 8mm Mauser cartridge and is configured in a short rifle pattern. The barrel is approximately 23.5 inches long and retains a thinned blued finish, while the receiver ring and bridge have been modified, with the bridge featuring two small screws indicating it has been drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Key markings include the receiver serial number 63636 stamped on the left side above a series of defaced or overstamped original markings. The top of the receiver ring has been scrubbed of its original manufacturer crest. The bolt assembly is polished steel and bears the serial number 82823, which does not match the receiver. The magazine floorplate is similarly mismatched, marked with serial number 82823 and a partial restamped number 3636. Sighting is provided by a fixed front blade and a tangent rear ladder sight graduated to 2,000 meters. The wood furniture is a VZ-24 pattern stock featuring a straight wrist, full-length handguard, steel buttplate, and multiple sling attachment points including a side-mounted swivel. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal components exhibit a worn blued finish with significant thinning and areas of light oxidation and silvering, particularly on the barrel bands and trigger guard. The bolt remains relatively bright with minor surface discoloration. The wood stock is in fair to good condition, showing various dings, scratches, and handling marks consistent with military use, along with several visible wood repairs. The bore is reported to have strong, sharp rifling. The bolt action cycles smoothly and the trigger appears to function, though the firearm has not been function-tested or test-fired.
