Description
This Webley & Scott Mark III is a classic British break-top, double-action revolver chambered for the .38 caliber cartridge. The firearm features a 4-inch barrel with a six-shot fluted cylinder and an automatic ejection system upon opening the frame. The metal surfaces retain a portion of their original blued finish, which is thinned and transitioning to a dark brown patina, particularly on the frame and grip straps. The furniture consists of two-piece checkered walnut grips featuring a rounded butt profile and a central brass screw bushing. Sighting is provided by a fixed semi-circular front blade and a square notch rear sight integrated into the barrel latch assembly. Key markings include MADE IN ENGLAND on the left side of the barrel rib and WEBLEY & SCOTT LTD / BIRMINGHAM & LONDON on the top strap. The right side of the frame is stamped MARK III .38, while the left side features the winged bullet logo above WEBLEY PATENTS and the serial number 34319. Various British commercial proof marks are visible on the barrel assembly and cylinder flutes, including the crown over NP, BP, and BV designations. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in good overall condition for its age. The blued finish remains on approximately 40% of the metal surfaces, primarily in protected areas of the barrel and cylinder flutes, while the frame and high-wear areas have mostly thinned to a smooth plum or brown patina with some localized surface oxidation. The checkered wood grips show moderate wear to the diamond texture and a few minor handling indentations but remain free of cracks or significant chips. The bore is bright with strong, well-defined rifling throughout and only minor instances of light frosting. The top-break action is tight with a positive lock-up, and the double-action mechanism appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
