Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 173:
Sold for: $80
Description
One rifle stock for a Mosin Nagant pattern rifle, manufactured from light-colored wood featuring a prominent, wide grain pattern characteristic of elm. This component features recessed finger grooves along the forend and a traditional sling slot cutout in the buttstock. The stock retains its steel recoil cross-bolt and the front nose cap assembly, which includes the bayonet attachment point. A rectangular stamp containing a capital letter N is present on the right side of the buttstock. The left side of the metal nose cap shows faint, illegible stamped characters.
Condition report:
The wooden surfaces appear to have been stripped and cleaned, resulting in a light blonde finish. The stock shows scattered dings and handling marks consistent with service use but remains structurally sound. The steel hardware exhibits a dark, aged patina with surface oxidation and areas of pitting, notably on the nose cap. Components missing from this assembly include the middle barrel band, cleaning rod, and steel buttplate.
