Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 182:
Sold for: $90
Description
This is a German Model 1934 (M34) light-weight steel helmet, a pattern commonly utilized by civil defense, police, and fire services. The shell features the characteristic square-dip side profile and two clusters of seven ventilation holes on each side of the crown. The exterior retains portions of its original black paint finish, a color typically associated with the Fire Police (Feuerloeschpolizei). Circular wear patterns on the sides of the shell indicate where decals were originally positioned. The helmet is constructed of light-gauge steel and the liner is secured with three rounded split-pins. The interior contains its original brown leather liner with eight fingers and a central drawstring. A black leather chinstrap with a metal buckle is present. One finger of the leather liner is stamped with the head size 55 in ink. Additional rectangular ink stamps are visible on the liner but are not clearly legible.
Condition report:
The helmet shows significant age and wear. The exterior black paint is heavily worn with approximately 40 to 50 percent remaining, showing extensive surface oxidation and pitting across the shell. A faint circular shadow on the front suggests where a decal was previously applied. The leather liner is in good condition for its age, showing typical darkening and minor scuffing from use. The leather chinstrap remains flexible, and the metal buckle exhibits surface rust.
