Description

This is a modern reproduction of a United States military Model 1860 light cavalry saber with its accompanying scabbard. The blade is constructed of single-edged polished steel and features a wide fuller extending most of its length. The spine of the blade is stamped with the word INDIA, identifying it as a modern replica manufactured for the reenactment and decorative market. The obverse ricasso is stamped with a three-line mark mimicking the historical Ames Manufacturing Company: AMES MFG CO / CHICOPEE / MASS. The reverse ricasso is stamped with mimicry of 19th-century military markings: U.S. / A.D.K / 1862. The hilt features a three-branch brass guard and a brass pommel cap. The underside of the guard is stamped with the serial number 4514. The grip is wrapped in black leather-textured material and secured with twisted brass wire. The polished steel scabbard is fitted with two suspension rings and a drag at the distal end.

Blade Length: 33 inches
Total Length: 40 inches.

Condition report:

The saber and scabbard are in very good condition. The polished steel blade and scabbard surfaces show minor surface scuffing and light scratches from handling. The brass components exhibit a light, even patina consistent with a modern age. The grip wrap and wire binding remain tight and secure. No significant dents are visible on the scabbard.
