A Pair of Yugoslavian M48 Leather Ammunition Pouches

Description
This lot consists of a pair of Yugoslavian military issue leather ammunition pouches, designed for use with the M48 Mauser rifle. Each unit is constructed from brown pebbled leather and features a dual-cell configuration. Each cell is designed to hold two five-round stripper clips of 7.92x57mm ammunition. The pouches utilize individual fold-over flaps secured by vertical leather straps that fasten to metal studs at the bottom. The reverse of each two-cell pouch is fitted with two vertical leather belt loops and a central arched metal D-ring for attachment to a combat belt and load-bearing suspenders. The hardware consists of steel D-rings and metal rivets. One belt loop on the reverse of the left pouch features handwritten numerals 8859 in black ink. This pattern is characteristic of post-WWII Yugoslavian production, which differs from the standard German three-cell pouch.
Condition report:
The pouches are in used, field-worn condition. The leather exhibits significant darkening, surface scuffing, and minor creasing consistent with military use. The stitching appears largely intact and tight throughout. Several of the metal rivets and the D-rings show signs of oxidation and verdigris. The leather remains flexible, and all closure straps are present without major tearing.
