Lot 213:
Sold for: $475
Description
This French Berthier Modèle 1916 bolt-action carbine is chambered for the 8mm Lebel cartridge and features an integrated five-round extended magazine. Developed for mobile units, this carbine configuration utilizes a barrel length of approximately 17.5 inches. The metal components show a blued finish with visible thinning on high points and scattered areas of light surface oxidation. The one-piece walnut stock and matching handguard exhibit handling wear, including various dings, scratches, and minor cracks consistent with service use. This example is equipped with a turned-down bolt handle, a side-mounted sling ring, a front blade sight, and a rear tangent ladder sight, as well as a cleaning rod stored beneath the barrel. Key markings include the receiver inscription Ets Continsouza MLE-M-16 and a capital N stamped on the barrel shank, indicating the chamber was modified for the Balle N cartridge. The serial number D 45178 is matching across the receiver, bolt handle, trigger guard, and buttstock. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The carbine is in good service-used condition. The blued finish shows thinning and wear from handling, particularly on the magazine housing and barrel, with some minor surface oxidation present. The walnut stock remains solid with numerous small dings, impressions, and scratches consistent with its age, along with minor surface cracks near the receiver tang and on the handguard. The action appears to function smoothly. The bore was not inspected and is sold as-is. Serial numbers are matching on all primary marked components.
