Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 215:
Sold for: $85
Description
A standard-issue Imperial Japanese Army Type 99 water canteen dating to the World War II era. The canteen features a rounded aluminum body finished in its original khaki/brown paint. It is fitted with a turned wooden stopper, a variation often associated with mid-to-late war production, which is secured to the carrier by a braided cotton cord. The canteen is held within its original tan cotton webbing harness, which includes a cross-strap retention system and an integrated adjustable shoulder strap with a rectangular metal buckle. There are no visible manufacturer marks, dates, or Kanji characters present on the canteen body or the webbing harness.
Condition report:
Good vintage, field-used condition. The aluminum body shows scattered paint loss, minor scuffs, and light surface oxidation, particularly around the neck and base. The wooden stopper exhibits surface wear and small chips around the upper edges. The cotton webbing harness and strap remain structurally sound but show typical age-related staining, fading, and minor fraying at the edges. The metal adjustment buckle shows surface oxidation consistent with age.
