Lot 224:
US Army M-1943 Canvas Entrenching Tool Carrier
Sold for: $40
Description
This is a US military issue M-1943 entrenching tool carrier, designed for use with the folding shovel. The carrier is constructed from heavy-weight OD7 (Olive Drab Shade 7) green canvas. It features a distinctive leather-reinforced attachment tab on the front face, equipped with two metal-rimmed grommets for mounting an M7 or M8 bayonet scabbard. The main closure flap is secured by a black-finished metal lift-the-dot snap fastener. The reverse side is fitted with standard M-1910 style wire hangers for attachment to a combat or cartridge belt. The front of the pouch features a prominent black stenciled US mark. The interior reverse side contains a multi-line ink stamp that reads: CARRIER, INTRENCHING / M-1943 / 08. Additional contractor and contract number lines are present but are too faded for a definitive transcription. This pattern was standard issue during the late World War II and Korean War eras.
Condition report:
The item is in good, field-used condition. The canvas shows overall fading and light soiling consistent with age and field service. Minor fraying and loose threads are present at the edges and seams. The metal hardware, including the wire hangers and snap fastener, shows some loss of the original black finish but remains fully functional. The leather scabbard attachment point is intact and remains supple, though it exhibits surface wear and minor scuffing. The stenciled US and the manufacturer stamps remain legible.
