Lot 231:
Sold for: $450
Description
This Japanese Type 38 Arisaka bolt-action rifle is chambered in 6.5x50mmSR and is configured with a 31.5-inch barrel. The rifle features a blued finish on the receiver and barrel, which is mounted in a traditional two-piece wood stock with a steel buttplate and finger grooves in the forend. Key markings include the Japanese characters 三, 八, and 式 denoting the model on the receiver bridge, though the imperial chrysanthemum mark above them has been heavily ground away. Verbatim markings on the left side of the receiver include the Kokura Arsenal symbol alongside the serial number 48073 and a series symbol. The rifle is equipped with an inverted-V front post sight and a flip-up ladder-style rear sight graduated to 2,400 meters. This lot is accompanied by a standard cleaning rod and a Type 30 bayonet with wood grips and a hooked quillon, which bears the Kokura Arsenal mark on the ricasso. Please note that the sliding receiver dust cover is missing from this example. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in fair overall condition, showing evidence of significant historical field use. The blued finish on the metal components exhibits thinning, edge wear, and areas of surface oxidation and light pitting. The wood stock has a dark, seasoned patina with numerous dings, scratches, and deeper handling marks consistent with age, but it remains structurally sound. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The bore was not inspected and its condition is unknown. The attached Type 30 bayonet shows heavy wear and age-related oxidation to the blade and quillon, with some bruising to the wood grip scales.
