Description
This is a German Third Reich Civil Service Faithful Service Medal (Treudienst-Ehrenzeichen), 2nd Class, awarded for 25 years of service. The award is constructed as a pattee cross struck from a silver-finished zinc-based alloy. The obverse features an oak leaf wreath positioned between the arms and a central square field containing a black enameled swastika. The reverse has a pebbled background with a raised central square containing the three-line inscription Fur treue Dienste in Fraktur script, which translates to For faithful service. The medal is suspended from its original cornflower blue moire ribbon, which is fitted with a brass safety-pin style mounting bar at the top.
Condition report:
The medal exhibits significant wear to the original silver wash, revealing the darker base metal beneath. There is noticeable bubbling and surface oxidation across the arms of the cross, typical for zinc-based awards of this era. The black enamel on the swastika is largely intact with some light surface scuffing. The ribbon shows age-related soiling and fraying at the top edges where it meets the mounting bar. The pin mechanism is functional.
