Lot 269:
Sold for: $150
Description
This lot contains two original United States military M1923 ten-pocket cartridge belts, designed for carrying eight-round clips for the M1 Garand rifle. The first belt is a US Army issue in Olive Drab No. 3 khaki canvas. It features a black ink U.S. stamp on the front right pocket section. The reverse is clearly stamped GREEN BAY AWNING & TENT CO. 1941. An interior pocket flap is marked with the alphanumeric service or laundry number R-3387. The hardware consists of brass grommets and lift-the-dot fasteners. The second belt is a United States Marine Corps issue in darker Olive Drab No. 7 green canvas. This example is stamped USMC in black ink on the reverse side. It features darkened metal hardware consistent with later wartime production or Marine Corps specific contracts. Both belts are constructed from heavy cotton canvas webbing with ten individual pocket compartments for ammunition storage.
Condition report:
Both belts are in good vintage condition with evidence of field use. The Army belt shows light service wear and minor soiling to the khaki canvas, with significant verdigris oxidation present on the brass grommets and fasteners. All snaps remain functional. The USMC belt exhibits fading to the green canvas and the USMC stamp. There is minor fraying along the edges. The metal hardware shows loss of its original black finish and some minor surface oxidation.
