Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 275:
Sold for: $35
Description
This is a modified WWI-era United States military leather holster designed for the M1917 .45 caliber revolver. The piece is constructed from heavy brown leather and features a large top flap. It has been extensively customized with rawhide whipstitching added to the edges of the flap, holster body, and belt loop. The holster retains its original brass wire belt hanger and a brass eyelet at the toe. The front flap is embossed with a large oval containing the characters US. The reverse side of the belt loop features a multi-line manufacturer stamp with the date 1918 clearly visible.
Condition report:
The holster is in well-used vintage condition with significant darkening of the leather. There is widespread surface crazing, scuffing, and finish wear, especially at flex points. The brass hardware exhibits a natural patina and green oxidation. The added rawhide lacing is largely intact but shows age-related darkening and wear. The leather remains structural but is characterized by age-related stiffness.
