Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 289:
Sold for: $55
Description
This lot consists of 100 rounds of 7.92x57mm Mauser military surplus rifle ammunition, distributed across five original cardboard boxes containing 20 rounds each. These cartridges feature brass casings and copper-jacketed spitzer-style lead core bullets, consistent with the heavy pointed bullet (schweres Spitzgeschoß or sS) load for the 8mm Mauser rifle. The ammunition was manufactured in Greece by the Greek Powder and Cartridge Company, also known as Poudrerie et Cartoucherie Hellénique. Each cardboard box is printed with identifying information including the quantity 20, the caliber designation 7,9 sS, the manufacturer initials P.C.H., and the production year 1940. The cartridge headstamps bear the Greek manufacturer characters E and K along with the numbers 3 and 9, indicating the ammunition itself was produced in 1939. The primer pockets are finished with a black sealant ring. The boxes show some age-related shelf wear including light staining and minor fraying at the edges.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in good vintage condition with the brass cartridge cases and copper bullet jackets exhibiting a light, natural patina and some minor oxidation consistent with age. All primers appear to be intact with the black sealant ring clearly visible on the bases. The cardboard boxes are structurally sound but show light soiling, storage wear, and small tears to the flap closures. This is vintage surplus ammunition and is sold as a collectible; we have not function-tested these rounds.
