Description
This commemorative ceramic beer stein was produced by the German manufacturer Bever for the US Army 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery. The vessel features an off-white glazed ceramic body with a traditional domed pewter lid and a ball thumb lift. The central decoration consists of a multi-color transfer-print of the 16th Field Artillery Regiment coat of arms, featuring a red shield with a black chevron and three yellow stars, surmounted by a horse head crest. The unit motto, Macte Nova Virtute, is inscribed on a scroll below the shield. Above the crest, the unit is identified as 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, with the commemorative dates 1917 – 1987 appearing below. To the left of the crest is a black line-art illustration of an M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System, and to the right is a line-art illustration of a heavy self-propelled howitzer. The body of the stein features an incised mark near the handle indicating a capacity of 0,5 l above the manufacturer name BEVER.
Condition report:
The item is in very good condition. The ceramic body is free of chips, cracks, or crazing. The transfer-printed graphics remain crisp and fully legible. The pewter lid and hinge mechanism are fully functional and securely attached to the handle. There are several small dark spots of surface residue on the glaze near the upper handle attachment.
