Lot 297:
Sold for: $625
Description
This is a French Berthier Model 1907-15 bolt-action military rifle chambered in 8mm Lebel. Produced by the Manufacture d’armes de Saint-Etienne, this rifle represents the primary long arm issued to French forces during World War I, featuring a 31.5 inch barrel and an internal three-round box magazine. The metal components exhibit a worn dark blued finish with an aged patina and areas of surface oxidation consistent with field use. The full-length dark wood stock shows significant handling marks, dings, and a notable rectangular wood patch repair on the right side of the buttstock. Key markings include the model designation St Etienne Mle 1907-15 stamped on the left side of the receiver, and the matching serial number N 21509 is clearly visible on the bolt handle and stamped into the right side of the buttstock. The rifle is equipped with standard military iron sights, a barrel-mounted bayonet lug, a stacking rod, and fixed sling swivels. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle retains a moderate amount of its original dark blued finish, now showing significant thinning and wear throughout, with a developing brown patina and scattered light pitting on the receiver and barrel. The bore is darkened with visible rifling but shows frosting and signs of use. The bolt action and trigger appear to function correctly, though the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The wood furniture is structurally sound but heavily weathered with numerous dings, scratches, and a prominent arsenal-style rectangular patch repair on the buttstock.
