Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 316:
Sold for: $80
Description
This lot consists of 61 rounds of .303 British caliber rifle ammunition, comprising twelve loaded five-round charger clips and one individual loose cartridge. The cartridges feature standard rimmed brass casings fitted with copper-jacketed spitzer bullets, consistent with military ball specifications. The charger clips are of the blackened steel Mk IV variety, each featuring five circular observation holes on both side plates for easy round identification. Key markings found on the face of several clips include the Roman numerals IV and the letter P. While headstamps are present on the base of the cartridges, they are not clearly legible for specific arsenal or date identification. The ammunition is presented as a group suitable for historical study or display alongside compatible Lee-Enfield pattern rifles.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in fair condition overall. The brass casings exhibit significant age-related tarnish and scattered spots of green verdigris. The copper-jacketed bullets show minor surface oxidation and general dulling of the finish. The blackened steel charger clips exhibit surface wear, thinning of the finish, and light oxidation in several areas. The cartridges appear to be live rounds, with no visible evidence of deactivation or spent primers.
