Description
This is a Swedish military Model 1896 bolt-action rifle chambered in 6.5x55mm Swedish, manufactured by Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori in 1909. The rifle is equipped with a blued steel barrel measuring approximately 29 inches in length featuring a threaded muzzle with a knurled thread protector, a ladder-style rear sight graduated from 300 to 600 meters, and a front post sight. The receiver bridge is verbatim marked with a royal crown over CARL GUSTAFS STADS / GEVARSFAKTORI. / 1909. The full serial number 247285 is stamped on the left side of the receiver, preceded by the inspector initials JV. Matching last three digits 285 are found on the bolt shroud, safety, cocking piece, magazine floorplate, both barrel bands, and the tang of the buttplate. The barrel bears an import mark near the muzzle which reads M96 SWEDEN 6.5X55 CAI ST ALB VT. The firearm is fitted into a full-length wood stock with finger grooves and a traditional two-part brass identification disc inset into the right side of the butt. The steel cleaning rod is present beneath the barrel. While the action appears to function correctly, we have not function-tested this firearm. Condition report:
The metal surfaces retain a high percentage of original bluing, showing expected thinning on the barrel and receiver edges from service use. The bolt assembly remains polished and bright with minor staining. The wood stock is in good condition, exhibiting various small dings, impressions, and light scratches consistent with its age and military history. The steel buttplate shows significant surface oxidation and finish wear. The bore was not inspected but the overall mechanical condition appears sound with the bolt cycling smoothly.
